Upgrading from version 2.2.0 to 2.3.0

If you are upgrading from version 2.2.0, the following tasks are recommended prior to installing version 2.3.0:

  • Adjust LPU (if necessary)

Adjust LPU

The Least-Privileged User (LPU) was refined in the management pack's 2.3.0 release.

If you have previously configured the LPU for the management pack's MS SQL Server monitoring user, see: Assigning MS SQL User Privileges to review the requirements (and script), and adjust as necessary.

Upgrading from versions earlier than 2.2.0

If you are upgrading from a version earlier than 2.2.0, the following tasks are recommended prior to installing version 2.3.0:

  • Delete deprecated dashboards
  • Adjust configuration settings (if necessary)
  • Adjust LPU (if necessary)

Delete deprecated dashboards

Several dashboards were deprecated as part of the management pack's 2.2.0 release:

  • Microsoft SQL Server Availability Group Overview
  • Microsoft SQL Server Environment Overview
  • Microsoft SQL Server Info
  • Microsoft SQL Server Top-N Database
  • Microsoft SQL Server Top-N SQL Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server Virtualization Disk
Important: If you do not remove the deprecated dashboards from a previous version of the management pack prior to installing the new version, you will continue to see the deprecated MS SQL Server dashboards after upgrading. For the list of dashboards included in the latest release, see: Dashboards (Microsoft SQL Server).

To remove the dashboards deprecated in the 2.2.0 release:

  1. From the top navigation bar, select Dashboards.

  2. Select one of the deprecated MS SQL Server dashboards listed above.

  3. From the Actions drop-down menu, select Delete Dashboard.

  4. Click OK when the confirmation dialog box appears to delete the selected dashboard.

  5. Install the new version of the management pack. See: Installing the Management Pack (Microsoft SQL Server).

Important: Note for vROps 6.6.1 users: Because existing dashboards are not overwritten by default in 6.6.1, select the second Reset Default Content... checkbox in the Add Solution window when installing the new .pak file (See: Installing the Management Pack (Microsoft SQL Server)). This should prevent duplicate MS SQL dashboards within your vROps system upon upgrade.

Adjust configuration settings

Two new Advanced configuration settings were added in the management pack's 2.2.0 release:

  • Exclude All Events

  • Exclude Only Log-Based Events

The default value for both settings is False; so no action is required if you do not want to exclude all events, or just log-based events, from being imported into vROps. If you do want to exclude certain events, adjust these settings accordingly. See: Creating an Adapter Instance (Microsoft SQL Server).

Adjust LPU

The Least-Privileged User (LPU) was refined in the management pack's 2.2.0 release.

If you have previously configured the LPU for the management pack's MS SQL Server monitoring user, see: Assigning MS SQL User Privileges to review the requirements (and script), and adjust as necessary.
