How to set a data retention period in vSphere Bitfusion

By using the vSphere Bitfusion plug-in, you can configure the period that vSphere Bitfusion retains your detailed and summary usage data.

The detailed usage data is the fine grain metrics data that includes the entire metadata and requires more disk space. You can keep detailed data from 1 to 365 days. To download detailed data, you can click Download CSV in the vSphere Bitfusion plug-in or you can use metric REST APIs.

The summary usage data is an aggregated metrics dataset that requires less space on disk. You can keep summary data from 30 to 1000 days, or without expiration date. You can download summary data by using metric REST APIs.

The default detailed data retention policy is 45 days, and the summary data retention policy is 180 days. It is recommended to keep more summary usage data than detailed usage data.

Procedure

1. In the vSphere Client, select Menu () > Bitfusion.
2. On the Settings tab, expand Time Series Defaults.
3. Set a data retention time.
   • Select how long you keep Detailed Usage Data in vSphere Bitfusion.
   • Select how long you keep Summary Usage Data in vSphere Bitfusion.
   To keep Summary Usage Data without expiration date, you can deselect the check box.
4. Click Save.

Results

You have successfully changed the data retention period.

Note: Any change to a data period, applies to the data that is stored in the future and has no effect on existing data
