You can enable deduplication and compression when you configure a new vSAN all-flash cluster.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to a new all-flash vSAN cluster.
  2. Click the Configure tab.

    vSphere Client
    1. Under vSAN, select Services and click Edit.
    2. Enable Deduplication and Compression.
    3. (Optional) Select Allow Reduced Redundancy. If needed, vSAN reduces the protection level of your VMs while enabling Deduplication and Compression. For more details, see Reducing VM Redundancy for vSAN Cluster.
    vSphere Web Client
    1. Under vSAN, select General.
    2. Click the Configure vSAN button.
    3. Configure deduplication and compression on the cluster.
      1. On the vSAN capabilites page, select the Enable check box under Deduplication and Compression.
      2. Enable reduced redundancy for your VMs. See Reducing VM Redundancy for vSAN Cluster.
    4. On the Claim disks page, specify which disks to claim for the vSAN cluster.
      1. Select a flash device to be used for capacity and click the Claim for capacity tier icon ().
      2. Select a flash device to be used as cache and click the Claim for cache tier icon ().
  3. Complete your cluster configuration.
