What's in the Release Notes

These release notes cover the following topics:

The Update Manager release notes provide information about VMware vSphere Update Manager, an optional module for VMware vCenter Server. For more information about VMware vSphere Update Manager, see the Installing and Administering VMware vSphere Update Manager documentation.

What's New

Some of the open source components that are embedded in Update Manager 6.7 Update 3, which are updated in this release include:

  • With vSphere Update Manager 6.7 Update 3l, you can run parallel remediation of ESXi hosts by using the vSphere Client as well. You can select a baseline and apply it to a cluster of ESXi hosts. However, you can run parallel remediation by using the vSphere Client only for hosts in Maintenance Mode.
  • Eclipse Jetty is upgraded to version jetty-9.4.31.v20200723.
  • The Oracle (Sun) JRE package is updated to version 1.8.0_261.
  • The Expat XML parser is updated to version 2.2.9.

For internationalization, compatibility, installation and upgrade, open source components and product support notices see the VMware vSphere Update Manager 6.7 Update 1 Release Notes.

Update Manager Functionality Differences Between vSphere Client and vSphere Web Client

Known Issues

The known issues are grouped as follows.

Installing, Upgrading, and Migration
  • ESXi upgrade fails during remediation by using the vSphere Update Manager

During ESXi host upgrade remediation, the vSphere Update Manager runs a scan followed by the actual upgrade. During the scanning, the updatemgr service checks and reports the compatibility of all images in the vSphere Update Manager repository against the given host. The scan operation allocates and deallocates a RAM disk of the size of the image under scan. In rare cases, if the image is compatible, this RAM disk is not deallocated at the end of the scan. This size might not be sufficient for the remediation operation. As a result, the host upgrade remediation fails with a ramdisk (upgradescratch) is full error in the vmkernel logs.

Workaround: Remove compatible images from the vSphere Update Manager repository and retry host upgrade remediation.
