ESXCLI 8.0 Release Notes

Welcome to the ESXCLI 8.0 release notes. Version numbers referenced in this document are placeholders and do not represent any commitment by VMware to have any features included in specific software versions.

About ESXCLI

The ESXCLI command set allows you to run common system administration commands from any machine with network access to those systems. ESXCLI includes a set of host management commands. You can run most commands against a vCenter Server system and target any ESXi system that the vCenter Server system manages.

What's New

This release changes the way ESXCLI is packaged and installed. The previous release included OS-specific binary installers for Linux and Windows. Now, ESXCLI is distributed as a single PyPI-compatible Python package that you can install on Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms by using the pip install command.

Supported Platforms

For this release, ESXCLI is supported on Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms that run the following Python versions:

  • Python 3 version 3.6.0 or later

  • Python 2 version 2.7.9 or later
