Once you have added a new Supervisor Service version to vCenter Server, you can install that version to Supervisors. You can only install Supervisor Service versions that are active and compatible with the Supervisors where you want to install them. Compatibility pre-checks are performed to ensure that the new Supervisor Service version is compatible with the target Supervisors.
Prerequisites
- Add the new Supervisor Service version to vCenter Server. See Add a New Version to a Supervisor Service.
- Verify that you have the Manage Supervisor Services on Supervisors privilege on the Supervisor where you want to install the service.
Procedure
- From the vSphere Client home menu, select Workload Management.
- Select Services.
- Select Manage Service.
- Select the new version that you want to install and select the Supervisor where you want to install it.
Verify that the currently installed service version on the
Supervisor is an older one.
- Click Next.
Compatibility pre-checks are performed to determine weather the
Supervisor Service version that you want to install is compatible with the
Supervisor. If the service version is compatible with the
Supervisor, you can proceed with the installation. In case the selected service version is not compatible with the
Supervisor two types of messages are displayed that describe the exact incompatibility:
- Warning messages. You can skip the warning messages, but you must acknowledge them to proceed with the installation.
- Error messages. Error message indicate that the Supervisor Service version is incompatible with the Supervisor and cannot be installed. In case of error messages, you must first resolve the incompatibility that was detected before you are able to install the service on the particular Supervisor.
- In the YAML Service Config field, enter configuration properties if the service requires any.
- View the installation progress for the service on Supervisors.
- Select the Supervisors tab and select a Supervisor where you install the service.
- Click Configure and click .
- Select the Installed tab.
Results
The Supervisor Service is in Configuring state, which means that all the necessary resources are being created in the Supervisor and the service YAML is being applied to the cluster. Once the YAML is successfully applied to the Supervisor with all its resources and namespace created or updated, the service state changes to Configured. The service is available to all the namespaces in that cluster and DevOps engineers can use it with their workloads.
