To notify to a set of recipients about issues with vCloud Usage Meter, you must configure the local email notifications.

You can configure local email notifications about product collection issues, connectivity issues, or resource issues with the vCloud Usage Meter appliance.

To configure the email notifications, navigate to the Email Notifications page. The image provides a screenshot of the page.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the vCloud Usage Meter Web interface.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Email Notifications.
  3. Configure the following settings.
    General Settings Description
    From email Enter the sender of the email notifications.
    Notify email(s) Enter the recipients of the email notifications.
    Note: Ensure that you enter the email addresses in the correct format: username@ domain. Otherwise, the comments will be marked in red.
    Frequency From the Frequency check box, select how often the recipients will receive email notifications. You can select between 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours. The Frequency check box defines a temporary limit that serves as a threshold and groups multiple alerts into a single email.
    Types of Alerts Select the types of alerts that the recipients will receive email notifications for. You must select at least one type of an alert.
    • Product Collection Errors
    • Appliance Connectivity Issues with VMware
    • Appliace Resource Issues
    • Data files management
    Note: Appliance Resource issues types of alerts do not take into account the selected frequency for the email notifications.
  4. Configure the SMTP settings.
    1. In the Host address text box, enter the SMTP server IP or hostname.
    2. In the Port text box, enter the SMTP port number.
    3. (Optional) If the SMTP server requires authentication, enter the SMTP user name and password.
    4. (Optional) If the provided server supports SMTP over TLS/SSL, select the Enable TLS/SSL check box.
      Note: Make sure to import the STMP certificate in the vCloud Usage Meter trust store. For more information, see vCloud Usage Meter Certificate Management.
    5. (Optional) Click Save.
      All email recipients receive an email notification with information about the applied settings. A message in the vCloud Usage Meter Web interface appears and informs you that the recipients received a notification. To pause the email notifcations, click the Pause button. vCloud Usage Meter notifies all email recepients about the paused notifications. To reset the notification settings, click the Reset button.
