Using the Compute EC2 dashboard you can cater to the network, memory, and CPU utilization of your EC2 instances at the AWS World level.

You can use the Compute EC2 dashboard to monitor the health of all your EC2 instances in the AWS inventory and filter them based on accounts and regions. The dashboard displays the total number of EC2 instances and the number of active instances. You can also view the size of the instances and their CPU, network, and memory utilization and distribution at the AWS World level.

The Compute EC2 dashboard displays the top 10 EC2 instances with the highest and the lowest CPU, network, and memory utilization and distribution at the AWS World level. You can filter this information and view it based on accounts and regions per account.

The Compute EC2 dashboard helps you answer several key questions:
  • How many EC2 instances are there?
  • How many EC2 instances are running or shut down?
  • What alerts are generated for the EC2 instances?
  • What are the key metrics for specific VMs in an EC2 instance?

How to Use the Dashboard?

The Compute EC2 dashboard displays the account names, available regions, EC2 instances by size, and the total number of EC2 instances at the AWS World level. It also displays the top ten EC2 instances with the highest and lowest CPU utilization and CPU distribution, the top ten EC2 instances with the highest and lowest network bandwidth and network distribution, and the top ten EC2 instances with the highest and lowest memory usage and distribution. To view memory-related data for any EC2 instances, the AWS CloudWatch agent must be installed on the EC2 instances.

You can also view the EC2 instances according to their power state and running time and view the alerts for the EC2 instances. You can also view the list of EC2 instances with their key metrics at the AWS world level.

  • Accounts widget: Displays the total number of AWS accounts being monitored at the AWS World level. Select an account from the table to refresh the dashboard and view the EC2 instance information for the specific account.
  • Regions widget: Select a region to filter the displayed information and view the data for EC2 instances per region.
  • EC2 Instances with Key Metrics widget: Displays the list of EC2 instances with key metrics at the AWS World level. The list of EC2 instances gets updated according to the account and region you select. Select an EC2 instance to view its key metrics, CPU utilization, network bandwidth, and memory usage for a particular EC2 instance.
