You upgrade the vSphere Replication appliance and any additional vSphere Replication servers by using a downloaded ISO image and the VRMS Appliance Management Interface.
Note: If you uncomment any of the configurations in
/etc/vmware/hbrsrv.xml, regardless if you change the configuration value, the value remains the same after you upgrade
vSphere Replication.
vSphere Replication Upgrade Scenarios
You use the ISO file and the VRMS Appliance Management Interface to upgrade from vSphere Replication 8.5.x or 8.6.x to vSphere Replication 8.7.
These examples of upgrade and update scenarios are not exhaustive. For the full list of supported upgrade paths, see the Compatibility Matrices for vSphere Replication 8.7.x at https://docs.vmware.com/en/vSphere-Replication/8.7/rn/compatibility-matrices-for-vsphere-replication-87/index.html.
- You can upgrade vSphere Replication 8.5.x or 8.6.x to 8.7 by using the ISO file for vSphere Replication 8.7.
- You cannot upgrade vSphere Replication from versions earlier than 8.4 to version 8.7 by using the Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI).
- You can upgrade between minor versions of vSphere Replication, for example 8.5.1 to 8.5.2, by using the ISO file and the VRMS Appliance Management Interface.
