You can use the software-packages utility to install staged patches or install the patches directly from an ISO image.

Prerequisites

If you are installing staged patches, verify that you staged the correct patch payload. See Stage Patches to the vCenter Server Appliance.

Procedure

  1. Access the appliance shell and log in as a user who has a super administrator role.
    The default user with a super administrator role is root.
  2. Install the patches.
    • To install patches that you already staged, run the software-packages install command.
    • To install patches directly from an ISO image without explicitly staging them, download the ISO to a local disk, mount the ISO image to the appliance, and run the command for installing the patches.
      1. Use the vSphere Client to log in to the ESXi host on which you deployed the vCenter Server Appliance.
      2. Navigate to the vCenter Server Appliance and select it.
      3. Click the CD/DVD Connections icon on the virtual machine toolbar, and select Connect to ISO image on local disk.
      4. Browse to locate the ISO image and click Open.
      5. Access the appliance shell and log in as a user who has a super administrator role.
      6. Run the software-packages install --iso command.

        This command silently performs a stage operation.

  3. (Optional) Run the shutdown reboot -r command to reboot the appliance.
