Add a vCenter Server

You must register a vCenter Server with Application Transformer for VMware Tanzu to view its inventory objects such as data centers, folders, clusters, and resource pools.

Prerequisites

• Application Transformer for VMware Tanzu must have a network line-of-sight with the vCenter Server.
• The DNS server configured while deploying Application Transformer for VMware Tanzu must resolve the vCenter FQDN and ESXi hosts FQDN.
• Ensure you have the vCenter user privileges. See Virtual Machine Guest Operations Privileges.

• Ensure that you have the required permissions. For more information, see Overview Application Transformer for VMware Tanzu Roles.

Procedure

1. Click Discovery from the main menu.
2. On the left navigation page, go to Inventory > vCenters.
3. Click Add vCenter.
4. Enter the vCenter details.
   • vCenter FQDN: FQDN or IP address of vCenter Server
   • vCenter Name: A user-friendly name or alias to easily identify the vCenter Server.
   • Credential: vCenter Server user credentials.

   If you do not have a defined credential, select Add Credential, enter the credentials, and alias.

5. Select the Automatically Scan vCenter to scan the vCenter for all available VMs.
6. Click Save.

Results

• A task is generated, which registers vCenter and syncs inventory object details. You can view the task progress on the Tasks pane or Tasks page.
• You can expand vCenter table to view its inventory objects.
• Scan vCenter inventory objects to discover VMs and components.
