A Data Management for VMware Tanzu template is a software blueprint for deploying a specific version of a specific data service. You manage templates for all Organizations in the Data Management for VMware Tanzu installation: publishing, unpublishing, or retiring them as required.
When you publish a template, you make a specific version of a data service available for provisioning.
Before you publish a template, ensure that it has the AVAILABLE or UNPUBLISHED Status.
Perform the following procedure to publish a template:
Select Templates from the left navigation pane.
This action displays the Templates view.
Examine the templates listed in the table, identify the template that you wish to publish, and navigate to that table row.
Click on the Action column value, and select Publish from the pop-up menu.
The Publish Template dialog displays.
Click CONFIRM to publish the template.
Monitor the status of the publish operation:
If the publish action completes successfully, the template's Status displays PUBLISHED.
When you unpublish a template, the template can no longer be used to provision a data service. You may choose to unpublish a template when a CVE is identified in a specific service version, and you want to prevent provisioning of new Service Instances with the template.
Unpublishing a template has no effect on Service Instances that were provisioned using the template. Data Management for VMware Tanzu continues to process updates for unpublished templates, and to apply them to running Service Instances.
A template must have the PUBLISHED Status to be eligible for unpublishing.
Perform the following procedure to unpublish a template:
Select Templates from the left navigation pane.
This action displays the Templates view, a table that lists the available templates.
Examine the templates listed in the table, identify the template that you wish to unpublish, and navigate to that table row.
The template Status must be PUBLISHED.
Click on the Action column, and select Unpublish from the pop-up menu.
The Unpublish Template dialog displays.
Click CONFIRM to unpublish the template.
The template is unpublished and can no longer be used to provision a Service Instance.
When you retire a template, the template becomes permanently unavailable, and can no longer be used to provision a data service. You may choose to retire a template when the version of the service is approaching or has passed end of support, and Service Instances that were provisioned with the template are no longer relevant (they are unimportant, can be deleted, or there are no instances).
Data Management for VMware Tanzu no longer processes or fetches software updates for templates that you retire, and no new Service Instances can be provisioned from the template.
Ensure that the template has the UNPUBLISHED Status.
Perform the following procedure to unpublish a template:
Select Templates from the left navigation pane.
This action displays the Templates view, a table that lists the available templates.
Examine the templates listed in the table, identify the template that you wish to retire, and navigate to that table row.
The template Status must be UNPUBLISHED.
Click on the Action column, and select Retire from the pop-up menu.
The Retire Template dialog displays.
Click CONFIRM to retire the template.
The retired template is removed from the table.
