If you have an active VMware Aria Automation Standard subscription, you are eligible for an Automation Config integration. Automation Config is deployed as a single-tenant instance and can scale to meet your infrastructure's needs.

Areas of ownership for Automation Config

VMware manages your Automation Config instance, which includes:
  • Databases (PostgreSQL and Redis)
  • Automation Config API server, also known as RaaS
  • Automation Config user interface

You are responsible for managing the deployment, upgrade, and decommission of Salt masters and Salt minions. Salt masters and Salt minions can be deployed in public cloud providers, on premises, or in another hosted solution. The deployment location is subject to your infrastructure needs.

Request an Automation Config integration

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Services Console at https://console.cloud.vmware.com/.
  2. Open a new Support Request. See How Do I Get Support for more detailed instructions on opening a support request.
  3. In the support request, include the following information:
    • Your organization ID
    • Your contact email

After submitting this support request, a VMware team deploys your Automation Config instance. When the deployment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email containing the deployment details.

Deploy your Salt masters

After you receive access to your Automation Config instance, you must connect your Salt masters to Automation Config. See Getting Started with Automation Config for instructions.

After you connect your Salt masters to Automation Config, you can configure the Automation Config integration in VMware Aria Automation.

Request Automation Config configuration changes

The Automation Config deployment does not include SSH access, so all configuration changes require another support request.

In your support request, include:

  • Your organization ID
  • Any state files that need to be applied
  • A description of the requested changes

For faster service, indicate the path to the file you would like to change and list the changes in key-value pairs. For example, if you needed to update the RaaS configuration file to add the minion_deployment configuration setting, your request should be formatted similar to the following example:

File: /etc/raas/raas

Value that needs to be added
minion_deployment:
  airgap_install: true
Note: Activating the Automation for Secure Hosts add-on is an Automation Config configuration change and should follow the same process outlined in this section.

Troubleshoot Automation Config integrations

If your new deployment takes longer than 24 hours to complete or if some elements of your deployment is not working as expected, you can escalate the request to Global Support.
