The Get Top Processes action is used for troubleshooting process issues and resource issues related to the applications of the virtual machine.

How the Action Works

The Get Top Processes action, provides the status of top 10 processes for the selected virtual machine. You can troubleshoot issues related to the resources that are affecting the applications in the virtual machine.

Prerequisites

  • VMware Tools version 11.0.1 must be installed and running on the VM.
  • The VM must be powered on and connected.

Where You Run the Action

For the supported VDI Desktop Session objects and object levels, in the main menu, select the Environment tab and then select the relevant VM from the Inventory tree. This action is available in the Actions drop-down just below the top menu in VMware Aria Operations.

Action Options

In the Get Top Processes screen, you must select a VM and enter the domain administrator/user credentials and click Begin Action.

After you click Begin Action, the next dialog box provides the task ID and a link to the task list.

Option Description
Recent Tasks To view the status of the job and verify that the job finished, click Recent Tasks.
OK To close the dialog box without further action, click OK.

When the action completes, the VM Scripted Action Results widget shows the top processes. You can review the following information.

Option Description
ID

Displays the process ID.
Name

Displays the name of the application
CPU

Displays the CPU usage in seconds for Winows VMs. The count starts when you start the operating system in the VM.
Memory

Displays the Memory usage in KB.
I/O Total Rate (B/S)

Displays the input output total rate.
