VMware Aria Operations for Networks supports Arista Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet VPN (EVPN) in the asymmetric Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB) mode.

In the asymmetric IRB mode, EVPN allows the routing operation to occur closer to the end host by integrating the routing and bridging functionality directly onto the VXLAN Tunnel Endpoint (VTEP).

When you view the VM-VM path for Arista switches, VMware Aria Operations for Networks also displays the spine and leaf switches of the Arista fabric. Where, the leaf switches are responsible for encapsulation and decapsulation of data packets, and the spine switches are responsible for the BGP routing.

A sample VM-VM path of Arista BGP EVPN (same VLAN) with spine and leaf fabrics is as follows:

The spine and leaf switches are also displayed when you view the VM-VM path for Arista BGP EVPN on the Network Map page.

A sample VM-VM path of Arista BGP EVPN (same VLAN) on the Network Map page is as follows:

A sample VM-VM path of Arista BGP EVPN (inter-VLAN) on the Network Map page is as follows:
