Windows Hardware Recommendations

Endpoints should comply with all hardware requirements for the OS you are running. Consider all processes that run on the endpoints when determining hardware configuration. Only industry standard desktop, laptop, or notebook computers and server hardware platforms are supported. Mobile, tablet, embedded, or fixed-function devices require additional qualifications. Please contact VMware Carbon Black Support for additional information.

Additional Notes

Memory

The Agent typically uses 50-100 MB of virtual memory.

Systems running WePOS, POSReady, XP Embedded, or Embedded 7 should have at least 512 MB of physical memory.

Other supported operating systems should have at least 1 GB of physical memory.

Disk Space

The Agent requires at least 200 MB of free disk space on the system volume; 500 MB is recommended.

Actual storage requirements depend on factors such as the number of files on the computer and the Carbon Black App Control Server configuration.

If Carbon Black App Control is installed to a location other than the system volume, 100 MB of free space must be available on the installation volume.

Note: * Starting with the release of the 8.6.2 App Control Windows agent, Microsoft no longer provides SHA-1 code signing for App Control releases. Moving forward, Microsoft will only provide SHA-2 code signing for App Control releases. For customers on Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Microsoft provided an update providing SHA-2 support. This means customers on Windows Vista, Server 2008 SP0/SP1, Win7 SP0, and Server 2008R2 SP0 will no longer be able to install App Control following the 8.6.0 release as no such updates exist for them. We recommend customers apply the proper updates to their operating system.

Limitations and Requirements:

  • App Control does not support Windows 11 Bypass IO or CIMFS.
  • App Control does not support Shared Clustered Volumes.
Important: The operating systems listed in the following table are no longer considered supported because there are no supported agents validated to work with them.
