This topic explains how to install and intialize a new Carbon Black EDR server. It includes instructions for upgrading, troubleshooting, and uninstalling a server. You can complete the entire process in about ten minutes, assuming reasonable download speed.

The Carbon Black EDR Server Operating Environment Requirements Guide provides guidelines for hardware and software required for the Carbon Black EDR server. Your environment must meet these requirements before you begin installation.

A Carbon Black EDR server installation consists of the following main steps:

  1. Obtain and install an RPM from Carbon Black. This RPM does not install the Carbon Black EDR server. It sets up a Yum repository and installs an SSL client certificate that allows the full Carbon Black EDR server to be downloaded and installed.
  2. Install the Carbon Black EDR server. This is a two-step process that involves running the yum install command and the cbinit configuration script. The Carbon Black EDR server software is downloaded when you run the yum install command.
