After you bring up an additional VMware Cloud Foundation instance in your environment, perform the necessary configuration tasks to activate Intelligent Logging and Analytics for VMware Cloud Foundation in the additional VMware Cloud Foundation instance.
Prerequisites
Verify that your additional VMware Cloud Foundation instance meets the requirements for implementing the Intelligent Logging and Analytics for VMware Cloud Foundation validated solution. See Implementation of Intelligent Logging and Analytics for VMware Cloud Foundation.
Reuse the previous implementation procedures to configure the additional VMware Cloud Foundation instance according to your values in the VMware Cloud Foundation Planning and Preparation Workbook.
Steps |
Description |
---|---|
Add the license to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Locker before deploying VMware Aria Operations for Logs. |
Import the VMware Aria Operations for Logs certificate, which you generated by using the certificate generation utility (CertGenVVS), to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Locker. |
Add the VMware Aria Operations for Logsadmin user password to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Locker. |
Deploy VMware Aria Operations for Logs using VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle in VMware Cloud Foundation mode. |
Create a folder in the management domain to group objects of the same type for easier management. |
Move the virtual machines of VMware Aria Operations for Logs cluster to a dedicated folder for better organization and management. |
If the management domain is configured with two availability zones, to activate failover to the second availability zone, move the VMware Aria Operations for Logs virtual machines to the VM group for the first availability zone. |
Configure the SMTP setting by using the VMware Aria Operations for Logs user interface. |
Configure the retention notification threshold. Enable data archiving, so that you can archive logs and selectively clean the datastore when free space is required. |
To provide propagation of roles to VMware Aria Operations for Logs, configure the integration with Active Directory. |
Configure identity source user groups and assign roles in VMware Aria Operations for Logs. |
Collect logs from the management components in a VI workload domain, by connecting VMware Aria Operations for Logs to the VI workload domain. |
Configure the NSX Edge nodes to send logs to VMware Aria Operations for Logs. |
Create and configure an agent group to apply common settings to the agents on the appliances in the VMware Cloud Foundation instance. |
To activate alerts for each component, use the built-in problem and alert signatures in VMware Aria Operations for Logs. |
16. Configure Log Forwarding Between VMware Cloud Foundation Instances |
To prevent log data loss in the event of a disaster, you configure log forwarding in VMware Aria Operations for Logs in the first VMware Cloud Foundation instance to a second VMware Cloud Foundation instance. |
17. Configure Log Forwarding Filters to Prevent Duplicating Log Data in VMware Aria Operations for Logs |
If logs are forwarded bidirectionally between two or more VMware Aria Operations for Logs instances, to prevent forwarding log events back to their originator and duplicating log data, you configure forwarding filters. |
