VMware Aria Operations communicates with management components of the SDDC to collect metrics which are presented through various dashboards and views.

Figure 1. Logical Design of VMware Aria Operations
The VMware Aria Operations deployment includes an analytics cluster behind an NSX load balancer and a group of VMware Cloud Proxies in each VMware Cloud Foundation instance. You monitor all SDDC management products that are part of VMware Cloud Foundation. VMware Aria Operations consumes identity management services provided by the clustered Workspace ONE Access . You access VMware Aria Operations by using a user interface and API.

The VMware Aria Operations logical components include an analytics cluster, collector groups, and data source integrations.

The VMware Cloud Proxies ease scalability by performing the data collection from each VMware Cloud Foundation instance and periodically sending collected data to the analytics cluster. The VMware Cloud Proxies communicate directly with the data nodes in the VMware Aria Operations analytics cluster.

Analytics cluster

  • Three medium-size nodes with a load balancer deployed on the cross-instance NSX segment in the management domain. This topology provides high availability and scale-out capacity up to 8 nodes.

  • vSphere HA protects the VMware Aria Operations analytics cluster.

  • Three medium-size nodes with a load balancer deployed on the cross-instance NSX segment in the management domain. This topology provides high availability and scale-out capacity up to 8 nodes.

  • vSphere HA protects the VMware Aria Operations analytics cluster.

  • A DRS rule specifies that the analytics cluster nodes run on ESXi hosts in the first availability zone.

  • In the first VMware Cloud Foundation instance, three medium-size nodes with a load balancer deployed on the cross-instance NSX segment in the management domain. This topology provides high availability, scale-out capacity up to 8 nodes, and failover.

  • vSphere HA protects the VMware Aria Operations analytics cluster.

VMware Cloud Proxies

  • A group of two VMware Cloud Proxies deployed on the local-instance NSX segment in the management domain.
