After the successful migration to the recovery site, prepare VMware Aria Automation for failover by reprotecting the virtual machines in Site Recovery Manager.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Site Recovery Manager in the protected VMware Cloud Foundation instance at https://<srm_fqdn>/dr as [email protected].
  2. In the existing site pair, click View details.
  3. Click the Recovery plans tab.
  4. Right-click the VMware Aria Automation recovery plan and select Reprotect.
  5. On the Confirmation options page, select the check box for confirming that you understand the reprotect operation is irreversible, and click Next.
  6. On the Ready to complete page, review the reprotect information and click Finish.
  7. To monitor the progress of the reprotect operation, click the VMware Aria Automation recovery plan and click the Recovery steps tab.
  8. If the status of the recovery plan changes to Reprotect interrupted, repeat steps 4 to 6 by selecting the Force cleanup check box on the Confirmation options page.
  9. After the status of the recovery plan changes to Ready, click the History tab and click Export all.
  10. Verify that the history report contains no errors.

The recovery plan can return to the Ready state even if errors occurred during the reprotect operation.

  11. If errors occurred during the reprotect operation, resolve them and run a test recovery to verify that the errors are fixed.

If you skip resolving the errors and attempt to run a planned migration or disaster recovery later, the recovery of some virtual machines might fail.

Results

After successful reprotect, Site Recovery Manager performs the following actions:

  • Reverses the recovery site and the protected site.

  • Creates placeholder copies of the VMware Aria Automation virtual machines from the new protected site to the new recovery site.
