By using the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager UI, you can upgrade VMware Cloud Director, VMware Chargeback, RabbitMQ, and vCloud Usage Meter.
The
VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager upgrade process consists of two phases - validation and product upgrade. When you initiate the product upgrade, by default,
VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager runs a validation before starting the product upgrade.
Prerequisites
If you log in as an imported user, verify that you have the
UPGRADE_PRODUCT and
READ_ENV permissions.
Procedure
- In the top navigation bar, click Deployments.
- From the Manage drop-down menu in the product card, select Upgrade.
The
Upgrade <product-name> window opens.
- From the Target Versions drop-down menu, select the version to which you want to upgrade.
- (Optional) Configure the advanced settings by expanding the Advanced Settings menu.
When you initiate a product upgrade, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager creates snapshots in the form of checkpoints. If the upgrade process fails, you can resume the workflow by using a snapshot.
Advanced Setting |
Description |
Automatic Rollback |
If you turn on the Automatic Rollback toggle, the system creates one snapshot at the beginning of the upgrade process and in the case of an upgrade failure, automatically resumes the workflow from this checkpoint. If you turn off the Automatic Rollback toggle, the system creates multiple snapshots and you can manually resume the workflow by using any of them. |
Start Services if stopped |
If you turn on the toggle, in the pre-upgrade validation, if a product service is stopped, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager attempts to start this service to complete the upgrade. If VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager cannot start the service, the upgrade process fails. |
Delete Backup after Upgrade |
After the upgrade completes, the system deletes the database backup that is created as part of the upgrade process. By default, the Delete Backup toggle is deactivated.
Note: Even if you deactivate the toggle, the VM snapshot that are created during the upgrade process get deleted by the system.
