You can add additional hosts to your SDDC for managing increasing workloads. Based on the rack type and your maximum rack population, the number of additional hosts you can order varies. Each SDDC can have up to three racks.

Prerequisites

The SDDC must be activated.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Services Console at https://console.cloud.vmware.com/csp/gateway/discovery.
  2. Launch the VMware Cloud on Dell service.
  3. Click the SDDC name or expand your SDDC and click View Details.
If you have multiple SDDCs, you can Search Your SDDC.
  4. On the Summary tab, Capacity and Usage card, click Order Additional Hosts.
Alternatively, you can also click Actions > Order Additional Hosts.

A notification window appears, which displays a message that the estimated delivery time of the additional hosts is 15 days, and a separate term commitment is created for additional hosts.

  5. Click Continue.
The Order additional hosts window appears.
  6. Select the number of hosts required.
Additional hosts are first placed in your existing last rack. Once your existing last rack is full, a new rack is added and shipped to you. Consider the following requirements and restrictions:
    • Hosts added to your existing last rack are placed in one or more default clusters. Each cluster requires a minimum of 3 hosts. If there are less than 3 hosts added to your existing last rack, then they are placed in one of the existing clusters in the SDDC. If all the existing clusters have reached their maximum host capacity, which is 16, you need to create a new cluster with lesser hosts before ordering additional hosts.
    • Hosts added to a new rack will be placed in one or more default clusters. Each cluster requires a minimum of 3 hosts. Therefore, a new rack requires at least 3 hosts.
    • Custom cluster grouping is not supported when you order additional hosts. Once your additional hosts are delivered and live, you can create new clusters or move hosts between clusters. Clusters can be created with any live hosts in your SDDC regardless of which rack they are placed in.
  7. For a new rack, you must provide the out-of-band management and SDDC management subnets. See, Configure SDDC Network Addresses.
  8. Review the CPU, memory, and storage capacities of the additional hosts.
  9. Review the columns, To be added and New Total, and then click Save & Continue.
  10. Review the details of the additional hosts and then click Order Hosts.
Note: The subscription term of additional hosts is the same as the original SDDC. However, the start date begins when the additional hosts are activated, which is about 15 days from the order date. Since the term of the original SDDC expires before the term of the additional hosts, you can renew the term of the original SDDC after its term expires. However, if you do not renew the term, the original SDDC is billed after its term expires.

The Additional Hosts Order Confirmation window appears.

  11. Read the message and click Order Hosts to confirm the order.
