You use the VMware Data Services Manager console, Databases view, to create a database in a vSphere cluster.

This reference identifies the Create Database form configuration property names, descriptions, and default values.

Basic Information

These properties specify the minimum information required to provision a database.

Property Name Description Default Value
Database Engine The database engine of the database. Choices are MySQL and PostgreSQL. None
Database Version The version of the database. The newest published VMware Data Services Manager template version of the database.
Instance Name The database cluster name; this name must be unique within a VMware Data Services Manager installation. None
Replica Mode The number of nodes to create for this cluster. Select one of the following:
  • Single Server - One node with no replicas. You can use vSphere HA.
  • Single vSphere Cluster - Multiple nodes co-located on a single vSphere cluster providing non-disruptive upgrades. You can select a three-node or five-node topology.
None
Topology Configuration for the database nodes depending on the replica mode you selected. If you selected Single Server as a replica mode, the default value is 1 (Primary + Monitor, 0 Replica). For Single vSphere Cluster, you must select a topology.
Database Name The name of the database. Same as Instance Name.
Admin Username The administrator username for the database. None

Infrastructure

These properties specify the amount of compute and disk resources to allot to the database. How you specify the vCPU and memory properties in the UI may differ depending upon the configuration of your organization.

Property Name Description Default Value
Infrastructure Policy An infrastructure policy defines the quality and quantity of resources the database can consume from vSphere clusters. To be available for selection, infrastructure policies must be created and enabled by a vSphere administrator. None
Cluster A vSphere cluster for the database placement if you opt for a manual placement. None
Storage Policy A storage policy specifies storage placement and resources for the database VM. You must select a storage policy from the list of storage policies associated with the infrastructure policy. None
VM Class You select a VM class from the list of VM classes associated with the infrastructure policy. VM classes define the amount of vCPU and memory resources to allocate to the database. None
Disk Size Virtual disk space (GBs) to allocate to the database VM. 60 GB

Backup and Maintenance

The backup properties specify the backup location, schedule, and retention periods, and are configurable only when automated backups are enabled for the database.

The maintenance properties in this pane configure the maintenance window for the database.

Property Name Description Default Value
Enable Backups You can opt-in or opt-out of automated backups. If you opt-in for automated backups, you have to set the Backup Location, Backup Retention Period, and Backup Schedule. On
Backup Location Specifies the location for the backups to be stored. None
Backup Retention Specifies the number of days to retain a backup on the selected storage location. 30 days. Minimum required is 1 day.
Backup Schedule Specify if you want to use default or customized backup schedule:
  • Use Default Backup Schedule - Use the schedule provided by the system and set the start time.
  • Add Customized Backup Schedule - Specify whether you want the backup to be full or incremental. Set up the start time and the frequency of the backup.
Default Backup Schedule
Enable Maintenance Window You can opt-in or opt-out of automatic upgrade to the next minor versions during the maintenance window that you configure. On
Day of the Week The maintenance window day of the week. Saturday
Start Time The time of day in which to start the maintenance window. 23:59
Duration The duration of the maintenance window (hours). 6 hours
