Users and roles

This section provides information on users and roles in VMware Edge Network Intelligence.

You can create as many users as you need in VMware Edge Network Intelligence. The users are identified by email address and can be assigned access permission based on roles.

There are 4 user roles and 3 permission levels in VMware Edge Network Intelligence.

User Role	Description
All	Access to the entire VMware Edge Network Intelligence product.
Network Engineer	Access to all of the network portions of VMware Edge Network Intelligence (Excludes security and Line of business).
Security	Access to the IoT portions of VMware Edge Network Intelligence.
Line of Business	Access to the Critical Devices portions of VMware Edge Network Intelligence.
Service Desk	Access to the Service desk dashboard.

Permission	Description
Owner	The primary contact for VMware Edge Network Intelligence. This role can create and delete all accounts in the system including admin accounts.
Admin	Read Write access to configure VMware Edge Network Intelligence, can promote other to admin but not demote.
Default	Read-only access to VMware Edge Network Intelligence.

When users are synced from VMware Secure Access Secure Edge (SASE), the following User Permissions and User Roles are created on the VMware Edge Network Intelligence for these users, based on the User Role settings configured on VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator (VECO):

Create a New User

Follow the below steps to add a new user:

1. Log in to the VMware Edge Network Intelligence portal, and go to Settings > Admin Settings.
2. The User Access screen appears by default:

   

3. Click the ADD USER button.
   Note: The ADD USER button appears only if you have Admin or Owner privileges.
4. On clicking the button, the following screen appears:

   

5. Configure the following fields:

   Option	Description
   FIRST NAME	Enter the user's first name. This field is optional.
   LAST NAME	Enter the user's last name. This field is optional.
   Email	Enter the email address of the user. This field is mandatory.

   Note: If the FIRST NAME and LAST NAME fields are left blank, new users are prompted to enter these details when they log into VMware Edge Network Intelligence for the first time. However, these fields are not mandatory.
6. Click Continue. The new user is created.
   Note: By default, the new user is created with default User Permission and Network Engineer User Role. You can update these values by navigating to the specific User page and clicking CHANGE USER PERMISSIONS and CHANGE USER ROLE buttons respectively.
