As an administrator, you create a user account from the administrator user interface. You create user accounts to provide users access to the different VMware Lab Platform interfaces such as the administrator interface, end-user interface to take labs, event management interface to create and manage an event.

Note:

You can also create non-cloud services provider administrator accounts. To create non-cloud services provider administrator accounts from VMware Lab Platform, click Users & Groups > User Accounts > Create New.

For information about VMware Lab Platform roles, see Roles in VMware Lab Platform.

VMware Cloud services users need to assign administrator roles from the https://console.cloud.vmware.com for their product.

For information about VMware Cloud services user roles and access, see https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Cloud-services/services/Using-VMware-Cloud-Services/GUID-D8316607-FE94-4DBA-9712-5CAD4DE885B5.html.

When you activate the portal setting Select a cloud by user's location, system picks a prepop that is closer to the user's location. In a multi-cloud environment, when a deployment pool has templates in clouds located in different regions, users will receive a lab template that is in the same region or that is closer to the user's location.

For example; if an organization account has two clouds, in two different regions (one in the USA and another one in EU). Lab (L1) that points to deployment pool 1 (DP1). DP1 has two lab templates —T1 (located in the USA cloud) and T2 (located in the EU cloud). Now when you activate the portal setting Select a cloud by user's location, and a user starts a lab, VMware Lab Platform takes the account’s location field and looks for a prepop in that location. If the account’s location is set to EU, and user starts lab L1, the system checks if template T2 has prepops, assigns one prepop for the entitlement.

    Note:

To check the location of a cloud org, click Cloud Management > Cloud vApps, view the details under the cloud org details column.

The Welcome to VMware Lab Platform email includes a verification link. The user must use the link to verify the account and configure a password for their account. Once the account is activated by the user, the account is verified in the system. You can check the account status from the Users & Groups > User Account > Accounts page. View the Account Verified column on the Accounts page to see the account verification status of the user.

If the user does not verify, then VMware Lab Platform provides a one-week grace period. During the grace period, the user has access to VMware Lab Platform, but some features are restricted. Restricted features include social media, the sending of transcripts and sending an invite to friends. If the grace period expires and the user still has not verified the account, then VMware Lab Platform blocks all access.

    Note:

Users can access more than one account. If the user you are creating already has access to another account, then that user does not get a Welcome to VMware Lab Platform email. A user gets the welcome email only for the first customer account to which access is granted.
