It is best to configure a deployment pool before creating a lab because of the deployment pool and the lab relationship.

If you create your lab template with the Lab Builder, a deployment pool is automatically created for you. For more information on lab templates and deployment pool creation, see Create a lab template with the Lab Builder.

To create a deployment pool:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Cloud Management > Deployment Pools. The Deployment Pool page opens.
  2. Click + Create New.
  3. Enter details about the deployment pool that you want to create.
    Option Description

    Name

Enter a descriptive name for the deployment pool.

    Description

Add a description text about the deployment pool.

    Explicitly Ready Prepops

    Note:

The Explicitly Ready Prepops option is available only if the Portal Settings > Configuration > Deployments > Explicitly ready prepops setting is activated.

If you activate the Explicitly Ready Prepops option in the Deployment Pools page, you can view the prepopulated lab template status under the Current values column on the Deployment Pools page. If the prepopulated lab templates are powered on, then you must explicitly mark them as ready to make them available for assignment. When prepopulated lab templates are ready and available, the status for the prepopulated lab templates changes from the blue column to the green column, and the prepopulated lab templates are available for assignment to entitlements.

    Primary Lab Template

Select a lab template from the List View drop-down menu. The lab template you select is contained in the deployment pool you are creating.

    Note:

When you create a deployment pool, you can only select a single, “primary” lab template. However, later you can add additional lab templates. The role of a primary lab template is to enforce identical structure. That is, all templates in a pool must have the same number of virtual machines, same operating system, same CPU and memory, same virtual machine names, and so on. The system starts with one template (primary) and checks any template being added to the pool to ensure it matches the templates currently in the pool.

  4. Click + Create Deployment Pool.

The system creates your deployment pool and opens the Edit Lab Templates form. For more details on the Edit Lab Templates, see Edit Lab Templates.

  5. Verify the lab template details on the Update Deployment Pool page. Add or modify the prepops value . Click Update Deployment Pool.
  6. To edit VMs, click Edit Vms option from the left-navigation pane. For more details on the Edit Vms page, see Edit Virtual Machine Metadata.
  7. Click Update Deployment Pool.
