To use Federation, you must install the Global Manager.

Installing a Global Manager appliance is similar to installing an NSX Manager appliance. The only difference is that when you deploy the appliance, you select NSX Global Manager for the role.

If you are installing NSX-T Data Center 3.0.0, install one Global Manager appliance.

If you are installing NSX-T Data Center 3.0.1, install three Global Manager appliances and form a cluster.

Important: If you are deploying an NSX-T Data Center 3.0.0 appliance, do not configure the Global Manager node to publish its FQDN. In NSX-T Data Center 3.0.0, you can restore a Global Manager only from an IP address and not from an FQDN.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that your environment meets the requirements for NSX Manager. See NSX Manager VM and Host Transport Node System Requirements.

  • Decide which location will contain the Global Manager.
  • Verify that you are installing the Global Manager appliance with NSX-T Data Center 3.0.0 or later.
Important: All Global Manager and Local Manager appliances in a Federation environment must have the same version of NSX-T Data Center installed.

Procedure

  1. Install the first Global Manager appliance.
  2. Log in to the NSX Manager appliance.
  3. (Optional) If you are installing Global Manager on vSphere, configure a compute manager.
  4. Create a Global Manager cluster if you are installing NSX-T Data Center 3.0.1.
  5. If you installed Global Manager on vSphere, disable snapshots.
  6. Configure a VIP for the Global Manager cluster.
