You can add multiple NSX Application Platform instances.

A common use case for multiple NSX Application Platform instances is for VMware Cloud Foundation environments with different workload domains.

When you reach the maximum number of supported NSX Application Platform instances, the Add NAPP Instance option is greyed out.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. From your browser, log in with Admin privileges to NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance at https://<nsx-application-platform-automation-ip-address>.
  2. In the Deployment Wizard page, click Start.
  3. In the Environment Configuration tab, accept the existing settings and navigate to the Environment Configuration > Configure Load Balancer > Maximum number of supported NAPP instances section.
  4. Set the instance number to 3 from the drop-down menu and click Next.
    Note: If you did not specify the number of instances when configuring the deployment settings for the NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance deployment wizard, the drop-down menu is not available.
  5. Skip to the NSX Application Platform configuration section.
  6. Configure NSX Application Platform instances details.
    1. Click Add NAPP Instance.
    2. Enter the NSX Application Platform Automation Appliance instance name, NSX Manager login credentials, and click Next.
    3. Select the NSX Application Platform version.
    4. Accept the default form factor Advanced (all services).
    5. Use the default number of the control plane, Kubernetes worker nodes, and resource reservation settings.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Enter the service and messaging name to set the appropriate DNS records and click Update.
      Note: The matching service and messaging names must also be set up externally.
    Click Next.
  7. Select Configuration Complete, Run Precheck and click Run Precheck.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Keep the validated network traffic flows and click Next.
  10. Click Update & Deploy for the deployment wizard to update the vSphere with Tanzu deployment.
    1. Review the deployment status to make sure the deployment is successful.
    2. If there is a vSphere with Tanzu deployment error, you must resolve it and click Update & Redeploy to proceed.
      You can download the generated Kubeconfig file and store the offline copy of the token.
    3. In the vSphere Client, verify that the vSphere with Tanzu cluster is created and powered on.

      After the deployment is successfully complete, the newly created VM appears under the cluster and VMs section.

  11. Click Next to start the installation of the NSX Application Platform.
    The installation takes up to 20 minutes to complete.
  12. From your browser, log in with Enterprise Admin privileges to an NSX Manager at https://<nsx-manager-ip-address>.
  13. Navigate to System > NSX Application Platform in the Configuration section.
  14. Verify that the newly installed NSX Application Platform is in a stable state.
    Wait for a few minutes for the NSX Application Platform to stabilize.
