What's New in Version 5.4.0

Feature Description
Azure Accelerated Networking Support for Virtual Edges Azure accelerated networking support is available for Virtual Edges in the 5.4 release. For detailed instructions on how to enable, disable, and verify accelerated networking for Virtual Edges, as well as support and host servicing details, see Azure Accelerated Networking Support for Virtual Edges.
Bastion Orchestrator Usability and Supportability Enhancements
In the 5.4.0 release, the following new features are introduced for the Bastion Orchestrator:
  • Ability to view events of a Staged Edge from the Production Orchestrator through the Bastion Orchestrator.
  • Ability to request diagnostic bundle from the Production Orchestrator through the Bastion Orchestrator of a Staged Edge.
  • If an Edge promotion fails due to some reason, the Edge goes back to the last known good configuration i.e. connected back to Bastion.
  • Ability to configure and send the Edge upgrade (Software and Firmware upgrades) related information to the Bastion Orchestrator while staging the SD-WAN Edge to Bastion Orchestrator. This allows the Edge to get upgraded immediately after the Edge is activated against the Bastion Orchestrator. For more information, see the "Stage a SD-WAN Edge to Bastion Orchestrator" section in the VMware SD-WAN Bastion Orchestrator Configuration Guide published at https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-SD-WAN/index.html.
Change in the Position of the "In Product Help Support Panel" in the Orchestrator The Support panel (which was on the side tab on the screen in SD-WAN) is now integrated into the Help panel icon in the Global Navigation. User can click the Question Mark icon located at the top right of the screen to access the Support panel. For more information, see Log in to VMware SASE Orchestrator Using SSO for Enterprise User.
DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation Prefix Delegation tags are defined to connect the LAN and WAN interfaces. These tags can be configured under Network Services or the Device settings page of an Edge or a Profile. For more information, see the following topics:
Enhancement to User Information Panel The User Information panel now includes additional information such as version number, build number, legal and terms information, cookie usage, and VMware trademark. User can click the User icon located at the top right of the screen to access the user information. For more information, see Configure User Account details.
Firewall Configuration and Usability Enhancements Release 5.4.0 includes the following enhancements for Firewall configuration and usability:
  • Provides visibility to view details of Object group from the firewall rule table.
  • Allows to search the rule by Rule name, IP address, Port/Port range, and Address group and Service group names.
For more information, see Configure Firewall Rule with Object Group.
High Availability Enhancements Release 5.4.0 includes two improvements for a site deployed using a High Availability topology:
  • Alerts: A user can configure a new Alert: HA Failed. This alert is triggered when the Standby Edge loses contact with the Orchestrator and is especially useful for Enhanced HA deployments.
  • Wi-Fi and Non Wi-Fi Edge Compatibility: An HA site can be deployed while mixing Wi-Fi and Non Wi-Fi capable Edge models.

For more information, see the following:

  • Prerequisites
  • Configure Alerts
Hub or Cluster Interconnect This feature is now enhanced to allow better communication between the Spoke Edges connected to one Hub Edge/Hub Cluster and the Spoke Edges connected to another Hub Edge/Hub Cluster, using multiple overlay and underlay connections. You can also monitor the Orchestrator Events added for this feature. For more information, see Hub or Cluster Interconnect.
Private Mobile Network VMware Private Mobile Network Orchestrator (PMNO) is a fully managed cloud-based service, which offers a simple, smart, and secure Enterprise wireless solution. This service is capable of monitoring, managing, and maintaining mobile core, RAN, and subscribers. For more information, see VMware Private Mobile Network© User Guide located at https://docs.vmware.com/.
Product Name Rebranding The login UI page is refreshed for product name rebranding. VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator is now renamed to VMware SASE Orchestrator globally. For more information, see Log in to VMware SASE Orchestrator Using SSO for Enterprise User.
View Suricata Signature in Orchestrator When you have the Enhanced Firewall Services (EFS) feature activated at the Enterprise level, now you can view the details of the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) Signatures that an Edge is using to filter the traffic from the VMware SASE Orchestrator. For more information, see View IDS/IPS Signatures.
