About VMware Skyline Collector
VMware Skyline™ is a proactive support service aligned with VMware Global Support Services. VMware Skyline automatically and securely collects, aggregates, and analyzes product usage data which proactively identifies potential problems and helps VMware Technical Support Engineers improve time-to-resolution.
This enables richer, more informed interactions between customers and VMware without extensive time investments by Technical Support Engineers. These capabilities transform support operations from reactive, break/fix to a proactive, predictive, and prescriptive experience that produces an even greater return on your VMware support investment.
For more information, see the VMware Skyline Documentation Center.
What's New in this Release
- New Registration Process: VMware Skyline is now using VMware Cloud Services for registration and access to VMware Skyline. This allows customers who have multiple organizations or business units that share a single Enterprise Agreement to segment their data. This provides customers more flexibility, giving complete control of what data can be seen and by who within Skyline Advisor. Registration of the Skyline Collector will require a token. This token will be generated from within VMware Cloud Services. For information how to create a token, along with an Organization within VMware Cloud Services for the purposes of VMware Skyline, please visit the VMware Skyline Documentation page.
- Skyline Log Assist enables logs to be transferred from a customer's environment to VMware, for the purposes of troubleshooting an open Support Request (SR), utilizing the Skyline Collector. Within Skyline Advisor, customers can now initiate a log transfer from selected objects within a vCenter Server. Additionally, VMware Technical Support Engineers (TSEs) can also initiate a log request from selected objects within a customer's vCenter Server. The customer will receive an official request to approve, or deny, the log transfer when initiated by VMware Global Support Services (GSS).
- Note: The following additional privileges are needed for the account used to add vCenter Server to Skyline Collector for Log Assist to function correctly. See the Skyline Collector Installation and Configuration Guide for more information related to the permissions required for the account used to add vCenter Server to Skyline Collector.

- VMware NSX Manager: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4
- VMware vSAN: 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.5, 6.6, 6.7
Resolved Issues
The following issues are resolved in this version of Skyline Collector:
2.0.0.2
- Limit the number of vCenter full topology data uploads per day to once every 12 hours.
- Enhanced ability for the Skyline Collector to batch the collection of vCenter data in multi-vCenter configurations.
2.0.0.1
- Added configuration for addition log rotation.
- Upgrade enhancement of an added cleanup script to ensure enough diskspace is available for the upgrade.
- Resolution to the VC_Hosts endpoint. In environments with over 100 host or clusters the Skyline Collector would have abnormal CPU and memory increases. This issue would impact the other endpoint collection such as VC_Changes.
- Resolution of VC_Extra endpoint showing incorrect failed state for non-VSAN customers.
2.0.0.0
- Improve Skyline Collector Resiliency: Introducing stateless data collection which simplifies the architecture and improves Collector resiliency.
- Added Edit capabilities for each vCenter Server and NSX Manager added to the Skyline Collector. This includes the ability to edit the username and password used to add the vCenter Server and NSX Manager to Skyline Collector.
- Removed the ability to Stop a product endpoint. You can now only Restart a product endpoint.
- Resolved an issue with the VC_EVENTS product endpoint causing high CPU and memory usage on vCenter Servers added to the Skyline Collector.
