For an IP Availability Manager in an MPLS Manager deployment, an administrator performs the standard configuration tasks that are presented in the VMware Smart Assurance IP Manager User Guide to prepare the IP Availability Manager application for SNMP discovery.

The administrator also performs the following additional configuration tasks to prepare IP Availability Manager for operation in an MPLS Manager deployment:

  • Enables MPLS light discovery (mandatory in most cases).

  • Enables BGP light discovery for MPLS-BGP cross-domain correlation (optional).

  • Enables overlapping IP address discovery (optional).

  • Enables interoperability with the MPLS VPN-Tagging Server (optional).

  • Creates CLI device-access objects for MPLS Manager (mandatory).

An administrator performs the additional configuration tasks for each IP Availability Manager source. As an example, for the MPLS-enabled network in An MPLS Manager deployment that has two IP Availability Manager sources, the administrator performs the additional configuration tasks for two IP Availability Manager sources.

Figure 1. An MPLS Manager deployment that has two IP Availability Manager sources

For the scenario in Figure 18, the administrator (1) enables MPLS light discovery for both IP Availability Manager sources and (2) enables BGP light discovery for both IP Availability Manager sources. In addition, the administrator would attach a Global Console to one of the sources and create CLI device-access groups for MPLS Manager.

Network Protocol Manager for BGP is included in an MPLS Manager deployment only when the MPLS-BGP cross-domain correlation feature is enabled.
