The MPLS Topology Server discovers L3VPN-specific objects by probing the router and switch objects that are imported from IP Availability Manager. Discovery sources for MPLS L3VPNs identifies the L3VPN discovery sources.

Table 1. Discovery sources for MPLS L3VPNs

Device/platform

L3VPN objects 1

1  SNMP-discovered objects are monitored for status, but CLI-discovered objects are not.

Cisco IOS

MPLS-VPN-MIB

If SNMP discovery fails or is not supported by the Cisco IOS device, MPLS Manager uses CLI discovery to discover the L3VPN objects.

Cisco IOX

MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB

Huawei

MPLS-VPN-MIB

If SNMP discovery fails or is not supported by the Huawei device, MPLS Manager uses CLI discovery to discover the L3VPN objects.

Juniper M/T

JUNIPER-VPN-MIB and CLI

If SNMP discovery fails or is not supported by the Juniper M/T device, MPLS Manager uses CLI discovery to discover the L3VPN objects.

MPLS Manager also uses CLI discovery to discover multicast groups and their relationship to P2MP LSPs.

Juniper ERX

CLI

Appendix A, “MIBs Accessed for Discovery and Remote Ping,” provides a description of the discovery MIB objects that are polled by an SNMP discovery probe. Appendix B, “CLI Commands Invoked for Discovery and LSP Ping,” provides a description of the commands that are invoked by a CLI discovery session.
