Scheduling an automatic pending discovery determines how often Network Protocol Manager attempts to discover routing topology by probing the devices on the Pending Elements list.

The parameters that control automatic pending discovery are located on the Topology tab of the Domain Manager Administration Console. By default, automatic pending discovery is disabled.

The pending discovery interval is counted from the time when Network Protocol Manager is started. So, if the pending discovery interval is set to six hours and Network Protocol Manager is started at 5 A.M., the pending discovery will occur every six hours thereafter, that is, at 11 A.M., at 5 P.M., at 11 P.M., and so on.

To enable automatic pending discovery and to specify a pending discovery interval:

  1. Attach the Domain Manager Administration Console to Network Protocol Manager.

Instructions for opening the Domain Manager Administration Console are presented in “Procedure for opening the Domain Manager Administration Console” on page 65.

  2. In the left panel of the Domain Manager Administration Console, click the Network Protocol Manager name to display a multiple-tab window in the right panel of the console.

  3. Select the Topology tab.

  4. Click the Enable Discovery Pending checkbox.

  5. Type a value in the Interval field for pending discovery and select a time interval (Seconds, Minutes, Hours, or Days) from the list. Ensure that the interval is equal to or greater than five minutes.

  6. Click Apply.
