For informational traps triggered from VoIP Performance Manager, the corresponding notifications generated by VoIP Performance Manager are associated with VoIP Availability Manager topology objects whenever possible.

Consider a scenario in which some threshold condition was breached in CallManager Host CCM4. A trap is then sent from VoIP Performance Manager to VoIP Availability Manager. This trap will be represented as a notification in Global Console.

Here the question is, which VoIP Availability Manager topological object is the notification against?

The elements in this example are:

  • Cisco Call manager Host named CCM7

  • A VoIP Performance Manager

  • A VoIP Availability Manager

    Assume that VoIP Availability Manager has been set up to receive traps from VoIP Performance Manager.

VoIP Availability Manager elements are:

  • Cisco CallManager Host

=

Host::CCM7

  • Cisco CallManager Service

=

CallManager::SVC-CCM4/ccm7

  • VoIP Performance Manager Service

=

VoipPerformanceManager::APP-QA-W2K3K/PM

  • VoIP Performance Manager Host

=

Host::QA-W2K3K

VoIP Performance Manager element is:

  • Cisco CallManager Host

=

/ccm7

Mapping stored internally in VoIP Availability Manager:

[VoIP PM name representation]

[VoIP AM topological object]

/ccm7

=

CallManager::SVC-CCM4/ccm7

In this example, since the internal mapping of the CCM7 PM node name to VoIP Availability Manager topological object is known, the notification is associated with the Cisco CallManager Service, CallManager::SVC-CCM4/ccm7.

If this mapping is not found, the notification is associated with the VoIP Performance Manager Service, VoipPerformanceManager::APP-QA-W2K3K/PM.

If the VoIP Performance Manager Service also did not exist, then the notification is associated with the VoIP Performance Manager Host, Host::QA-W2K3K.

Notifications are aggregated based upon the node where a threshold condition was crossed. For example, all traps from VoIP Performance Manager which are triggered due to exceeded threshold conditions on the node named /ccm-site1 are aggregated into a single notification. To view the component notifications of the aggregate, click on the Aggregate tab in the Notification Properties dialog box as described in the VMware Smart Assurance Service Assurance Manager Operator Guide.
