To use the ScaleIO management feature, you need to fulfill the following prerequisites:

Table 1. Supported ScaleIO Version and Platform

ScaleIO Version Supported

ScaleIO Platform Supported

2.0.0, 2.0.1 version

Linux ( RHEL7/8, CentOS 7/8, SUSE 12, Ubuntu 14.04/16.04)

2.0.0, 2.0.1 version

vSphere 6.0 version

  • For ScaleIO support, it is required to have IP, ESM and SAM products running on 9.5 versions. This is required due to certifications enhancement done in IP related to LLDP connections creation and VLAN to port association required for ScaleIO RCA.

  • For monitoring ScaleIO System deployed on Linux platform:

    • SNMP and LLDP must be enabled on all Linux hosts where ScaleIO entities like MDM,SDS,SDC, and Gateway are deployed. These Linux hosts need to discovered in INCHARGE-AM-PM server for monitoring.

    • SNMP and LLDP must be enabled on all Ethernet switches / routers which are part of ScaleIO network. These network elements need to be discovered in INCHARGE-AM-PM server for monitoring.

    • REST API access must be available on the ScaleIO Gateway host. In ESM new type ScaleIO has been added in the credentials configuration windows to specify ScaleIO Gateway IP Address, ScaleIO MDM administrator username, and ScaleIO MDM administrator password.

  • For monitoring ScaleIO system deployed on vSphere(ESX) platform:

    • ESX SNMP-Agent must be enabled on all ESX hosts where ScaleIO entities like MDM,SDS,SDC, and Gateway are deployed. For all the ESX vSwitch LLDP/CDP must be enabled to build the connection between ESX Host and neighbor Switch. If its neighbor switch is Cisco then CDP must be enabled on vSwitch, else LLDP must be enabled on vSwitch. These ESX hosts need to discovered in INCHARGE-AM-PM server for monitoring.

    • vCenter access need to be provided. vCenter credentials need to be provided in ESM for vCenter discovery where ScaleIO deployed.

    • SNMP and LLDP/CDP must be enabled on all ethernet switches/routers which are part of ScaleIO network.

  • Once ScaleIO gateway is deployed and REST API access is available, validate whether REST communications works fine. Following procedure helps you to validate:

    • Enter the IPAddress of ScaleIO Gateway Host in the browser using https format.

      Example : https://<IPAddress> or https://<Hostname>

    • Enter the username and password for accessing the scaleIO system. Once credentials are entered login to the ScaleIO system.

    • Click Maintain, and then click Test Rest Configuration. A new page displayed.

    • Click Connect to MDM on.....

    • Enter the ScaleIO Administrator credentials to access the ScaleIO gateway. On successful authentication following message must displayed:

Obtained login token for the MDM.

Successfully retrieved system information from the MDM.

    • Above message indicates, ScaleIO gateway received the token, which means REST API access is working fine.

      Note:

If, in case it asks to approve the certificates, approve the certificate and then re-authenticate. Even after approving certificates you are not able to obtain token or error message is displayed contact ScaleIO Support team for resolving REST API Access.
