In VMware Telco Cloud Automation, the resources are categorized according to tenant awareness and shareability.

Resource Sharing

A resource can be an infrastructure, catalog, or inventory within VMware Telco Cloud Automation. Each resource has two dedicated privileges. One controls the read access while the other controls the write access to the resource. However, apart from these two privileges, a resource may have other privileges too.

A tag is a label attached to a resource for identification. Each tenant creates tags for its resources and these tags are not visible to other tenants.

Resource sharing controls the access of tenants to a given resource while permissions control what kind of access a user within the tenant has. Sharing makes the resource visible to one or more tenants.
Note: Sharing a resource does not share the existing tags on that resource.

An operation can be defined as a method that allows a user to read or modify a resource. To carry out an operation, besides relevant permission, an adequate share is also required. Each operation has its minimum required share and therefore, if a user has the required privilege, but not the required share for the tenant, the user cannot perform the operation.

The different share types are Read-Only, Use, Modify, and Full. When you create a resource, by default, full share is granted to the resource. However, you can remove the full share for the tenant. For more information on these share types, see Share a Resource with the Tenant.

Resource Categorization

The following resource categories are available:
  • Sharable tenant-aware resources: • Sharable tenant-aware resources: If you can associate a resource with a tenant, such resources are called tenant-aware resources. Sharable tenant-aware resources are those tenant-aware resources that you can share. For example, Network Services, Caas Clusters, and Workflow.
  • Non-sharable resources: Resources that you cannot share. However, a non-sharable resource may be visible if it's associated with a sharable resource. For example, non-sharable resources, such as operation occurrence (OPOC), alarm, and audit logs may be visible if it's associated with a Network Function on which these operations are running.
  • Non-sharable non-tenant aware resources: If you can't associate a resource with a tenant, such resources are called non-tenant-aware resources. Non-sharable non-tenant-aware resources are those that you can neither associate with a tenant nor share. For example, global objects, such as configurations, licenses, and technical support bundles.
