To create the compute vSphere Distributed Switch, follow these steps.

Procedure

  1. Create a distributed switch named TCP_COMP_MGMT_VDS.
    Note:

Ensure that the Jumbo frame value is set to 9000.

  2. Add two uplink ports to the distributed switch.
  3. Add hosts ESXi_COMP_01 through ESXi_COMP_04 to TCP_COMP_MGMT_VDS.
  4. Connect two physical Ethernet ports from each ESXi host to the uplink ports on TCP_COMP_MGMT_VDS.
  5. For VMkernel networking, create the following port groups on TCP_COMP_MGMT_VDS.
Table 1. VMkernel Port Groups on the vSphere Distributed Switch

    Port Group

    VLAN ID

    ESXi Management

    100

    vMotion Network

    200

    vSAN Network

    300

  6. You can create an additional vSphere Distributed Switch if you need to configure the SR-IOV network with a port group.
Table 2. SR-IOV Port Groups on vSphere Distributed Switch

    Port Group

    VLAN ID

    SR-IOV Network

    N

    <N> specifies any VLAN ID.

  7. Verify that you can log in to TCP_COMP_VC and that all the ESXi hosts are in the Connected state.

What to do next

After configuring the vSphere distributed switch in the compute cluster, verify the following.

  1. One Distributed virtual switch is visible in each ESXi host in the compute cluster.

    Note:

C-VDS switches can be seen after NSX is configured.

  2. Two Ethernet ports of the ESXi host are connected to uplink ports for TCP_COMP_MGMT_VDS.

  3. Two or more Ethernet ports are available for C-VDS Standard or Enhanced Switch.

  4. ESXi hosts are in the Connected state after migrating the VMK0 from vSS to vDS.

  5. VMkernel adapters are created for each ESXi host and the traffic services are enabled.
