In certain situations regarding Linux-based connectors and the embedded connector, when you upgrade from VMware Identity Manager 3.3.1 or 3.3.2 directly to 3.3.4, you have the option of migrating your connectors to external Windows connectors.

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.4 differs from 3.3.3 in that 3.3.4 supports the use of the following functionality with the embedded connector:
  • Active Directory over Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA)
  • Kerberos authentication adapter

If you upgraded from 3.3.1 or 3.3.2 to 3.3.3, you were required to migrate existing IWA directories from the embedded connector to an external Windows connector and you were required to migrate information from existing external Linux connectors to external Windows connectors. If you are now upgrading from 3.3.3 to 3.3.4, migrating connector information to external Windows connectors does not apply.

However, if you are upgrading from 3.3.1 or 3.3.2 directly to 3.3.4, migrating existing IWA directories from an embedded connector to an external Windows connector or migrating information from an existing external Linux connector to an external Windows connector is an option.
Note: Beginning with 3.3.3, VMware Identity Manager no longer includes a new version of the external Linux connector. You can continue using previous versions of the Linux-based connector, but such versions do not have the newest functionality.

To migrate an embedded connector or external Linux connector, you require a Windows server on which to install the new, external Windows connector.

You perform connector migration after upgrading the VMware Identity Manager service to 3.3.4.
