As an admin, you can restrict or allow certain file types from being downloaded or uploaded to content repositories.

What can you do with the File Extensions page?

The path to the settings page on the UEM console is Groups & Settings > All Settings > Content > Advanced > File Extensions.

With the File Extensions page, you can:

  • Create an allowlist or denylist to specify the file extensions that you want to allow or block in the UEM console or within the Workspace ONE Content app.

Determine your Organization group hierarchy

Before you review and modify the settings, understand the two types of inheritance/override options for the organization group hierarchy available at the top and bottom of the settings page and determine your choice. For more information about these settings, see the Override Versus Inherit Setting for Organization Groups section of the Organization Groups topic in the Console Basics Guide at VMware Docs.

  • Current Setting – Select whether to Inherit or Override the displayed settings. Inherit means use the settings of the current organization group's parent OG, while Override enables the settings for editing so you can modify the current OG's settings directly.
  • Child Permission – Select the available behavior of child organization groups that exist below the currently selected organization group. Inherit only means child OGs are only allowed to inherit these settings. Override only means they override the settings, and Inherit or Override means you can choose to inherit or override settings in child OGs that exist below the currently selected OG.
Table 1. Allowed File Extensions
Setting Description
All Select this setting if you want to allow all file types for upload and repository sync.
Allow List Use this setting to specify the file extension types you want to make visible in the UEM console and within Workspace ONE Content app.

You must separate the file extension types with new lines, spaces, or commas.

Deny List Use this setting to enter the file extension types you want to hide in the UEM console and within Workspace ONE Content app.

Hiding the file types prevents the users from downloading from or uploading to content repositories.
