What's New in this Release

Introduction

VMware vCloud NFV is an ETSI-compliant Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) platform for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) looking to radically reduce costs and increase service agility through a CSP-centric VMware Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) architecture.

The vCloud NFV platform enables a modular approach to NFV-based service deployment that is proven in production with CSPs globally, and delivers the shortest time to value while ensuring investment protection.

More detail is provided under each of the product components below.

vCloud NFV 2.0.1 is a maintenance release of this solution based on VMware vSphere 6.5 Update 1 and has the following changes:

  • This release includes the first maintenance release of vSphere 6.5, Update 1. As a result, all hypervisor related functions are updated including:
    • VMware vCenter Server 6.5 Update 1
    • VMware vSphere Replication 6.5.1
  • As part of this release vCloud Director 8.20 is certified for longer RTT latency times of up to 100 ms, to suit the CSPs' requirements for remote site management.
  • This release includes VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.4 and 6.3.6, which contain bug fixes.
  • VMware vSAN 6.6.1
  • VMware vRealize Operations remains on the previous release of vRealize Operations 6.5.
  • New VMware vRealize Log Insight 4.3 and 4.5.1 Full Edition

VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 1 is the first update release to ESXi 6.5. This release gives you the option to manage vSAN upgrades through vSphere Update Manager, providing you with unified and common workflow. See VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 1 Release Notes for more details.

VMware vSphere Replication 6.5.1 is compatible with VMware vSphere 6.5 Update 1. See VMware vSphere Replication 6.5.1 Release Notes for more details.

VMware vSAN 6.6.1 introduces several new features and enhancements, including:

  • VMware Update Manager build recommendations for vSAN
  • Performance diagnostics
  • Increased support for locator LEDs on vSAN disks

For more information refer to the VMware vSAN 6.6.1 Release Notes.

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.4 and 6.3.6 address a number of specific customer bugs. See the Resolved Issues section of VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.4 Release Notes or VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.6 Release Notes for more detail.

Since NSX for vSphere version 6.3.3, there is a new NSX API to retrieve a list of all unresolved alarms on NSX Manager. Some system events trigger the creation of alarms. Some alarms, along with other alerts, are displayed on the NSX Dashboard. You can view all unresolved alarms with GET /api/2.0/services/systemalarms. See the NSX API Guide for more API information.

VMware vCenter Server 6.5 Update 1 addresses several issues including an intermittent error of the type ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint "pk_vpx_guest_disk" (see KB 2148368). For more on this update release, see VMware vCenter Server 6.5 Update 1 Release Notes.

VMware Site Recovery Manager 6.5.1 is compatible with VMware vSphere 6.5 Update 1. This release provides the following new features:

  • Supports upgrade migration path from vCenter Server Virtual Appliance 6.0 Update 3 to vCenter Server Virtual Appliance 6.5 Update 1
  • Supports additional external databases
  • Supports additional gues operating systems

Resolved Issues

  • vSphere Replication appliance VAMI blue screen does not appear after upgrading from 6.1.1 to 6.5.

After upgrading the vSphere Replication appliance from 6.1.1 to 6.5, the VAMI blue screen does not appear in the console.

    Fixed in vSphere Replication 6.5.1.

  • Context Help links to the vCloud Director 8.20 User's Guide are broken.

Context Help links to the User's Guide are broken in 8.20.

    Fixed in vCloud Director 8.20.0.1.

  • Slowness observed in workflow 'opening VM Properties' and 'opening the Add to My Cloud' dialogues.

After vCloud Director upgrade, slow response is observed in certain elements of the vCloud Director Web interface.

    Fixed in vCloud Director 8.20.0.1.

  • ImportServiceImpl NPE when using import VC VM into existing vApp.

When attempting to add a VM into an existing application it failed. This issue only occurs when adding the VM from vSphere into an existing vApp. If manually adding it into a new vApp it works.

    Fixed in vCloud Director 8.20.0.1.

  • vCloud Director logs might have errors.

VcListener is getting an update from VC that a VM is moved from one resource pool (RP) to another. The following message is logged many times, 'Property changes map indicated a delta in resource pool of a VM, but the values are missing'.

    Fixed in vCloud Direcotor 8.20.0.1.

  • A failure to deploy a VM in compute fabric does not do the appropriate cleanup, it causes VM to go to pending state upon deletion.

If a VM deployment failed in compute fabric deployment phase, the required cleanup was missed.

    Fixed in vCloud Director 8.20.0.1.

Known Issues

  • Migrate to VXLAN Operation Not Supported with vSphere 6.5

You cannot use the Migrate to VXLAN button to convert VCDNI network pools to VXLAN network pools after you have upgraded your vCloud Director installation to use vSphere 6.5. VCDNI network pools are not supported on vSphere releases later than 6.0 and NSX releases later than 6.2.

If your vCloud Director installation still has any VCDNI network pools hosted on vSphere 6.0 or earlier, upgrade vCloud Director to 8.20 and migrate the VCDNI pools to VXLAN before upgrading to vSphere 6.5. For more information, see KB 2148381.
