The following prerequisite configurations for ESXi hosts are required to collect external relationships and certain metrics.

Note: If you are using Intelligent Provisioning, both prerequisite configurations listed below will be performed automatically, and you can skip the steps below. If using HPE's customized ESXi, the HPE ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere will be installed automatically, and you can skip the second prerequisite configuration. However, if using VMware's generic ESXi, you will need to perform both prerequisite configurations manually as outlined below.
  • Configuring the iLO Server Name to ESXi Host – Blade or Rack Servers

Required to create the VMware Host > Server external relationship

  • Installing the HPE ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere – Rack Servers Only

Required to collect certain metrics (details below)

Configuring the iLO Server Name to ESXi Host – Blade or Rack Servers

To create an external relationship between your rack/blade server and VMware host, you must set the Server Name and Server FQDN/IP Address to your ESXi server name in your iLO Security settings.

Note: The following steps were completed on an iLO 5 system. The steps may vary slightly for iLO 4 systems.
  1. From your iLO 5 console, navigate to Security > Access Settings.

    ilo5_security_access_settings
  2. Under Server Name and Server FQDN/IP Address, enter your ESXi server information.
  3. Click Apply to save your changes.

Installing the HPE ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere – Rack Servers Only

If you want the optional HPE Agentless Management Service (AMS) under ESXi, you must install the current version of the HPE ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere for your version of ESXi. Without AMS, certain metrics will not be collected. See the excerpt from HPE's iLO documentation below for details:

Note: AMS is installed automatically if you use the recommended Intelligent Provisioning installation method for Windows installations.
