You can use the vSphere Web Client to enable local and remote access to the appliance.

Prerequisites

Verify that the user who logs in to the vCenter Server instance in the vCenter Server Appliance is a member of the SystemConfiguration.Administrators group in vCenter Single Sign-On.

To enable access to the vCenter Server Appliance Bash shell, verify that the user name you use to log in to the vCenter Server instance in the vCenter Server Appliance is a member of the SystemConfiguration.BashShellAdministrators group. See Add a User to the SystemConfiguration.BashShellAdministrators Group.

Procedure

  1. Use the vSphere Web Client to log in as administrator@your_domain_name to the vCenter Server instance in the vCenter Server Appliance.

    The address is of the type https://appliance-IP-address-or-FQDN/vsphere-client.

  2. On the vSphere Web Client main page, click Home > Administration > System Configuration.
  3. Under System Configuration, click Nodes.
  4. Under Nodes, select a node and click the Manage tab.
  5. Under Manage tab, select Settings > Common > Access and click Edit.
  6. Select one of the available options to access the vCenter Server Appliance.
    Option Description
    Enable local login Enables local login to the vCenter Server Appliance console.
    Enable SSH login Enables SSH access to the vCenter Server Appliance.
    Enable Bash shell access Enables Bash shell access to the vCenter Server Appliance for the number of minutes that you enter.

    This option is available only when the user name you use to log in to the vCenter Server instance in the vCenter Server Appliance is a member of the SystemConfiguration.BashShellAdministrators group.

  7. Click OK to save the settings.
