Avi Load Balancer has a built-in indexing and searching service that provides analytics of the application traffic and Avi Load Balancer system and configuration events. Some customers wish to incorporate the data into a pre-existing log management system (for example, Splunk, Sumo Logic, rsyslog/elasticsearch, and so on).
Rate Shaping and Throttling Options
Avi Load Balancer includes many options for rate shaping and throttling of traffic. This can be applied at the virtual service, pool/server, or client level. These options exist in several places throughout the UI, depending on the specific object they are applied against. Additionally, DataScripts can be used to create customized limits.
Logging All Headers in Client-Server HTTP Traffic
Avi Load Balancer provides extensive logging options for virtual service traffic. Among these options is an option to enable logging of all headers in HTTP traffic between clients and servers. The option to log all headers is available for HTTP policies and client log filters. HTTP policies and client log filters are each part of an individual virtual service’s configuration.
Excluding Unwanted Messages from Client Logs
Some protocols can be chatty in nature and can generate a high volume of messages that do not indicate an error but are not excluded by disabling non-significant logs. These extraneous messages clutter the log and can unnecessarily reduce the overall health score of the virtual service.
Viewing Logs on Avi Load Balancer for a Specific Duration
The log query system on Avi Load Balancer returns only 10000 logs for a given period since this operation is memory intensive. If the number of logs exceeds 10000, Avi Load Balancer REST API calls are used to check logs for a specific duration or period.
