VMware Data Services Manager allows you to configure Log Forwarding for DSM provider VM and provisioned databases.
You can also generate on-demand logs for the DSM provider VM and provisioned databases. See Collecting System Logs and Collecting Database Logs.
Logs can be analysed to improve productivity of the system, deduce trends, or to troubleshoot, as required.
To enable Log Forwarding, perform the following steps.
Procedure
- Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console as a DSM administrator.
- Select Settings from the left navigation pane.
- Click the Log Forwarding tab in the Settings view, and then click EDIT.
- Toggle Log Forwarding from OFF to ON.
- Set the following properties in the Edit Log Forwarding form.

Select ARIA OPERATIONS FOR LOGS ON-PREM or Syslog Server from the drop down menu. |
- If you selected ARIA OPERATIONS FOR LOGS ON-PREM, specify the following parameters.

The IP address of the Aria Operations for Logs On-prem deployment. |
- For Syslog Server, specify the following.

The port number on which the syslog server is listening. |
- Click SAVE.
Results
After you have configured Log Forwarding, you can see the Log Forwarding Details details in the Log Forwarding tab.
