To update an Edge host manually, the host image must be replaced with the latest version downloaded from the Edge Compute Stack service.

The following steps remove the current Edge host, which results in downtime of the Edge host and workloads deployed until the rebuild is complete.

Prerequisites

The host must be registered with the Edge Compute Stack service and must be active.

Procedure

  1. Follow the steps to delete the current Edge host from the VMware Edge Compute Stack service (Deleting an Edge host). Make a note of the vendor, model, and serial number as you require this information to register the Edge host after rebuild.
  2. Follow the steps in Downloading the Media to update the Edge host.
  3. Deploy the Edge host by following the steps in Deploying Edge hosts.
  4. After the automated build is complete, re-register the Edge host with the service by following the steps in Registering a single Edge host.
  5. Re-associate the Git repository with the Edge host by following the steps in Associating an Edge host to a Git Repository.

Results

Your Edge host is rebuilt and the desired state is re-applied to the Edge host. The previous configuration and workloads are re-deployed to this device.
