What's New

This release of VMware Fusion is a free upgrade for all VMware Fusion 11 users. This release provides the following:

Performance improvements, bug fixes and security updates.

Important Fixes

This release of VMware Fusion addresses the following issues:

  • VMware Fusion contains a use-after-free vulnerability in the XHCI USB controller. A malicious actor with local administrative privileges on a virtual machine may exploit this issue to execute code as the virtual machine's VMX process running on the host. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifier CVE-2020-4004 to this issue. See VMSA-2020-0026 for more information.

  • VMware Fusion contains a privilege escalation vulnerability due to the way it allows configuring the system wide path. An attacker with normal user privileges may exploit this issue to trick an admin user into executing malicious code on the system where VMware Fusion is installed. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifier CVE-2020-3980 to this issue. See VMSA-2020-0020.1 for more information.

The entitlements related security improvements have been implemented as suggested by Csaba Fitzl (@theevilbit).
