To ensure the highest level of uptime for a site, even through NSX Advanced Load Balancer software upgrades, careful consideration must be made to ensure availability for both NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller's and Service Engines. This topic introduces Controller High Availability and Service Engine High Availability.
NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller HA: Provides node-level redundancy for NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller's. A single NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller is deployed as the leader node while the two additional NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller's are added as follower nodes.
NSX Advanced Load Balancer Service Engine HA: Provides SE-level redundancy within a SE group. If a SE within the group fails then, the HA heals the failure and compensates for the reduced site capacity; which means it replaces a new SE in place of the one that has failed.
HA for NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller's and SEs are separate features which are configured separately. HA for NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller's is a system administration setting.
To ensure application availability in the presence of whole site failures, NSX Advanced Load Balancer recommends use of NSX Advanced Load Balancer GSLB which provides an overview See the NSX Advanced Load Balancer Controller GSLB Guide for more information.
