Before starting the SNMP trap integration components in a VoIP Availability Manager deployment, you must configure them so that they can receive, distribute, and process traps properly at startup.
The configuration steps are:
-
Enable the trap exploder to process SNMPv3 traps on page 89.
-
Configure the trap exploder to forward traps on page 90 to receive traps from the managed network devices and to distribute VoIP traps to VoIP Availability Manager, network traps to IP Availability Manager, VoIP informational traps to the VoIP Notification Trap Adapter, and non-VoIP informational traps to the SNMP Trap Adapter configured as a trap receiver.
-
Configure the built-in trap receiver on page 94 of VoIP Availability Manager to receive the traps forwarded by the trap exploder.
-
Configure the VoIP Notification Trap Adapter on page 95 to receive the VoIP informational traps forwarded by the trap exploder and to convert the traps into VMware Smart Assurance notifications.
-
Configure the trap receiver for Adapter Platform on page 96 in the Service Assurance Manager installation area to receive the non-VoIP informational traps forwarded by the trap exploder and to convert the traps into VMware Smart Assurance notifications.
-
Configure the Adapter Platform on page 96 to import topology from VoIP Availability Manager and IP Availability Manager for the purpose of associating VMware Smart Assurance notifications with the appropriate topology objects.
A specific procedure is provided in “Configure components to forward VoIP Performance Manager threshold traps” on page 97 that explains how to configure the trap exploder, the VoIP Notification Trap Adapter, and the VoIP Performance Manager to forward default threshold traps for informational purposes.
