What's New

Carrier-Grade Resilient Networking

VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.1 introduces the following new features for virtualized networking and security for private, public, and multi-clouds.

  • Conversion to NSX-T Policy Neutron Plugin for OpenStack environment consuming Management API: Allows you to move an OpenStack with NSX-T environment from the Management API to the Policy API. You can move an NSX-T environment deployed before NSX-T 2.5 to the latest NSX-T Neutron Plugin and leverage the latest platform features.

  • Ability to change the order of operations between NAT and FWLL on OpenStack Neutron Router: Provides flexibility in choosing the order of operations between NAT and FWLL in your deployment. At the OpenStack Neutron Router level (mapped to a Tier-1 in NSX-T), you can define the order of operations to be either NAT then firewall or firewall then NAT. This feature is a global setting for an OpenStack Platform.

  • Cloud-scale Networking: Federation enhancements and Enhanced Multicast capabilities

  • Intrinsic Security: Distributed IPS and FQDN-based Enhancements

  • Lifecycle and monitoring: NSX-T support with vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), simplified installation, enhanced monitoring, search and filtering.

For more information about these features, see the VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.1 Release Notes.

Multi-Tenancy Management

VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1 introduces the following new features and enhancements:

  • Support for the latest versions of VMware products: VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1 supports and is fully compatible with VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 1, VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.1, and VMware NSX Data Center for vSphere 6.4.8.

  • New features and enhancements:

    • Support of Stateful DHCPv6: You can now choose between SLAAC and DHCPv6 for IP addressing in the data plane. This feature requires the Neutron Policy Plugin and NSX-T Data Center 3.1.

    • Support IP CIDR format for Neutron ports allowed-address-pairs settings: This feature requires the Neutron Policy Plugin and NSX-T Data Center 3.1.

For more information about these features, see the VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1 Release Notes.

Workload Compute & Storage Performance

VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 1 introduces the following new features and enhancements:

  • Enhanced vSphere Lifecycle Manager hardware compatibility pre-checks for vSAN environments

  • Increased number of vSphere Lifecycle Manager concurrent operations on clusters

  • vSphere Lifecycle Manager support for coordinated updates between availability zones

  • Virtual hardware version 18

  • Increased resource maximums for virtual machines and performance enhancements

For more information about these features and enhancements, see the VMware vSphere 7.0 Update 1 Release Notes.

VMware vSAN 7.0 Update 1 introduces the following new features and enhancements:

  • HCI Mesh: HCI Mesh is a software-based approach for disaggregation of compute and storage resources in vSAN. It brings together multiple independent vSAN clusters by enabling cross-cluster utilization of remote datastore capacity within vCenter Server. HCI Mesh enables efficient utilization and consumption of data center resources and provides simple storage management at scale.

  • vSAN File Service Enhancements: Native vSAN File Service includes support for SMB file shares. Support for Microsoft Active Directory, Kerberos authentication, and scalability improvements also are available.

  • Compression-only vSAN: You can enable compression independent of deduplication, thereby providing the storage efficiency option for workloads that cannot leverage deduplication. With compression-only vSAN, a failed capacity device does not impact the entire disk group.

  • vSAN Data-in-Transit Encryption: Enables secure over-the-wire encryption of data traffic between nodes in a vSAN cluster. vSAN data-in-transit encryption is a cluster-wide feature. It can be enabled independently or along with the vSAN data-at-rest encryption. Traffic encryption uses the same FIPS-2 validated cryptographic module as the existing encryption features. It does not require a KMS server.

  • Enhanced Data Durability During Maintenance Mode: Protects the integrity of data when a host is in maintenance mode with the Ensure Accessibility option. All incremental writes to the host in maintenance are now redirected to another host, if it is available. This feature benefits VMs configured with PFTT=1 and also provides an alternative to PFTT=2 to ensure data integrity during maintenance operations.

For more information about these features, see the VMware vSAN 7.0 Update 1 Release Notes.

Validated Patches

Resolved Issues

  • NSX-T Tier1 router failed for debug API call. Error as, the requested object <id> could not be found.

Object Not Found Error Shown in Management Pack Debug-Info API When Converting T1 DR to T1 SR and Disconnecting the T0 Router Later

This issue is fixed in VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.1.

  • Dynamically Changing the Lcore Assignment Value from the Transport Node Profile May Cause ESXi Server to PSOD

This issue is fixed in VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.1.2.

  • Load Balancers Created in Previous Versions of VMware Integrated OpenStack Are Not Listed in the Horizon UI of the Latest Version

This issue is fixed in VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1.

Known Issues

  • Tunnels on the Edge and Host Nodes Go Down in ESXi After Modifying the Lcore Assignments to the NUMA Nodes

When modifying the number of lcores assigned to the NUMA nodes in the transport node profile, the tunnels go down on the respective edge and host nodes.

Workaround: Follow the instructions in the KB article 83737.

  • OpenStack Instance Configuration Fails in vROps When Selecting Detect Automatically as the EndPoint Type

Configuration of the OpenStack instance fails in vROps when Detect Automatically is selected as the endpoint type.

Workaround: Select Internal Only or Admin Only as the endpoint type instead of Automatic.

  • Error Occurs When Creating Images Through Horizon with Public Visibility in VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1

When you create an image through Horizon with public visibility in VMware Integrated OpenStack 7.0.1, the following error occurs:

An unexpected error has occurred. Try refreshing the page. If that doesn't help, contact your administrator.

    Workaround: None

  • Bootstrap Patch Termination Error Occurs When Upgrading vRealize Orchestrator from Version 8.1 to 8.2

When you upgrade vRealize Orchestrator from version 8.1 to 8.2, the following error occurs:

    Update bootstrap patch was terminated.

Workaround: Deploy vRealize Orchestrator 8.2 using the Greenfield method instead of upgrade and import the vRealize Orchestrator objects such as workflows and packages from vRealize Orchestrator 8.1. For more information, see Managing Packages in the vRealize Orchestrator documentation.

  • NSX-T Logical Segments and T0/T1 Gateways Not Populated in vRLI Dashboards

The NSX-T logical segments and T0/T1 gateways created using the Policy UI (Networking tab) are not populated in vRealize Log Insight (vRLI) dashboards.

    Workaround: None

  • Management vCenter Server Not Populated After Restoring the VMware Integrated OpenStack Backup

After restoring the backup of VMware Integrated OpenStack, the management vCenter Server is not populated in the OpenStack Management Server (OMS) configuration page.

Workaround: Follow the instructions in the KB article 79722.
