To begin metering vCenter Server, you must assign additional profile-driven storage privileges to a vCenter Server user with read-only role.
Prerequisites
- The vSphere administrator is not using conflicting vCenter Server roles.
- You must assign the vCenter Server permissions at either a Global level or to an object in the object hierarchy.

Procedure
- Log in to the vSphere Web Client as an administrator, such as [email protected].
- Navigate to .
- Create the read-only role.
- From the list with sample roles, select the Read-only role, and click the Clone role action icon.
- Enter a name for the new role, and click OK.
- Assign the profile-driven storage privileges to the newly created role.
- Select the newly created role, and click the Edit icon.
- From the list with privileges, select profile-driven storage and select the Profile-driven storage view check box.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Assign the new role to the user which you use for vCloud Usage Meter collection.
- Select the vCenter Server for which you want to assign permissions.
- Click the Permissions tab.
- Select the user to which you want to assign the privileges defined by the selected role.
- From the Domain drop-down menu, select the domain for the user.
- Enter a name in the Search box or select a name from the list.
The system searches user names, group names, and descriptions.
- Select the user.
The name is added to the User/Group list.
- From the Role drop-down menu, select the role you created in Step 3.
- Click the Propagate to children check box, and click OK.
Results
The server adds read-only vCenter Server permissions to the user.
